What to Look for in a Good PS3 Repair Manual
The Sony Playstation 3 gaming system is very popular and well-liked, but many owners have encountered serious errors on their system. One of the most affordable solutions is to find a good PS3 repair manual so that you can look after your own PS3 repairs.

So what should you expect in a PS3 repair manual? Here are some points to keep in mind:

a good PS3 repair manual should be written by someone with actual hands-on experience in repairing the Playstation gaming system.

it will have to be clear, with steps that are easy to follow and well-illustrated with lots of color photos.

it should cover ALL of the most common errors that occur with the Playstation 3 so that you can diagnose and repair a specific problem properly

ideally, the manual will also cover a range of error codes beyond the most common ones; it’s fine to count averages, but that does not help if you are one of the minority who run into a less typical error!

the best PS3 repair manual will include a set of video guides in addition to the written instructions; sometimes you need to see ALL the steps from beginning to end in order to understand what you have to do, and videos are much better for that than still pictures.

any useful PS3 repair manual should also apply to various models of the PS3, with specific instructions for the different models where necessary.

the manual should not require you to buy a whole set of specialized tools; it should be based on common household tools that you would have, or that could be purchased locally for minimal expense.

if you want to do your own PS3 repairs it should be possible to do them in a matter of hours, not days or weeks.

a good PS3 repair manual should be backed up by a support system; if you run into something not covered by the manual, or you don’t understand an instruction, you should be able to get in touch with the help you need quickly.

there should be a satisfaction guarantee with the product; if you’re not able to repair your PS3 as expected you should be able to get your money back with no questions asked.

The PS3 repair manual developed by Rob Sheffield meets ALL these requirements. He runs a business out of his own home in Melbourne, repairing Playstation systems. The materials he has written and filmed are based on his own hands-on experience over several years.

Click Here for the best PS3 Controller Fix

PS3 Controller Fix Tips

When something goes wrong with your controller you probably don’t even consider needing a PS3 controller fix. It’s just as easy to go out and buy a new one. But that’s not always the best solution. If the problem is in your console, then you could buy a dozen new controllers and none of them are going to work. You need a manual that has more than one PS3 controller fix – one that addresses issues you may have with the console, too.

You can try a couple of different fixes – for example, plug your controller into the USB controller charger, press “PS”, then uplug the charger and press “PS” again to try to reset it so it syncs with the bluetooth element.

Or you could try opening up the case on the console and blowing out dust and checking for loose wiring or loose chip connections. Also, make sure your console is well-ventilated; many problems are caused by overheating.

But if you don’t really know what you’re looking for you could end up doing more harm then good when you open that case. And once the PS3 console needs repair you’re looking at at least $150 and 6 weeks without your system if you have to send it to Sony. And when Sony sends it back to you those 600 hours you’ve put in on Guitar Hero are going to be wiped off the drive.

While the PS3 is one of the most reliable gaming systems on the market, it’s also not that difficult to repair yourself. You could accomplish a PS3 controller fix yourself in a matter of an hour or two and save yourself a lot of time and money. And you can protect all that game data you have stored on the drive. All you need are a few tools you probably already have around the house and a good PS3 repair guide.

In a perfect world, you would never need to make PS3 repairs, but if you find that perfect world please let me know. The truth is that if you spend a good deal of time playing your console, you are more likely than not going to experience at least a minor problem occasionally and there’s a good possibility that a major fault will come your way.

Though the Sony PS3 has been rated as average when it comes to rate of errors and needed repairs, that doesn’t mean that you won’t have problems more frequently than the average. Statistics are fine for insurance companies, but they don’t help much when you have to spend 6 weeks waiting for your PS3 to be returned to you. In a perfect world, you would never need to make PS3 repairs, but if you find that perfect world please let me know. The truth is that if you spend a good deal of time playing your console, you are more than likely to experience at least a minor problem occasionally and there’s a good possibility that a major fault will come your way.

If you don’t believe that Sony expects such disasters to befall you, then explain why there are so many programs in place for just such an event. Often PS3 repairs are not even worth the cost and the time required, so Sony offers previous owners a deal on a refurbished unit. They also have a $7 a month insurance program that will provide you with a replacement machine while yours is repaired. If neither of these sounds like the perfect solution for you, you’re not alone.

Most problems with the PS3, whether minor or major, can be fixed yourself at home. Often PS3 repairs are a simple matter of a loose connection or a cheap replacement part that can be found on eBay for a few dollars. The secret is knowing how to diagnose the problem and what to do to fix it. This is where a PS3 repair guide comes in. These handy little guides cover all the most common problems and offer step by step solutions on how to make them go away. Pick up a copy online and be prepared for the day you PS3 decides to take a dump in the middle of your favorite game.

There are things in this world that once they are broken, they simply can’t be repaired. Humpty Dumpty is a good example. There are other things that can be repaired, even though a certain cabal of people, namely the corporations that make money from such propaganda, don’t want the average person to know that. Anyone who owns the Sony Playstation 3 is probably familiar with some of the more common problems from which this unit occasionally suffers. One of these, the dreaded “yellow light of death” as it’s come to be called, is a problem that can be fixed with the proper knowledge. In fact, so as not to lend it any credit, henceforth the yellow light of death will simply be referred to as the Playstation 3 ylod. I won’t even give it justice by putting it into capital letters.

Tens of thousands of gamers have been struck by this seemingly insurmountable failure. Fortunately the simple flashing light from which the term Playstation 3 ylod comes, does not necessarily indicate a catastrophic system failure any more than running out of gas means the end of your auto. The most common cause of the ylod is a simple faulty soldering job. The motherboard that contains the necessary components to make the PS3 do its thing is connected via several soldered circuits. Occasionally, the solder is less than complete and eventually a small piece chips away leaving a gap in the connection. Simply repairing this will get you up and running again.

The hardest part of this fix is finding where to solder. There may be no obvious signs. Fortunately there is an excellent guide available that explains a simple fix called solder reflow. The guide will explain exactly what you need to do and in no time at all, you’ll have the Playstation 3 ylod extinguished and be back to full game play.

Don’t panic. Sit down and take deep breaths. I know it seems bad right now, but I promise you it’s not as serious as it looks. I realize you were on level 15 but you’ll soon be up and running again and you’ll have new found confidence. There is no way that you are gonna let a little thing like a flashing light drop your position in the online leader boards. What you are going to do is pick yourself up, dust yourself off, find a yellow light of death fix and go on like the problem never happened.

I promise you’re not alone. Tens of thousands of hard core PS3 gamers have faced the same test you have. One minute they were in the zone crushing the competition like a zen warrior and the next minute they were left open mouthed and in shock, mindlessly staring at the yellow flashing light that just ended their world. Some of these people accepted defeat and turned to Sony, the people who let this happen in the first place, to help them with the problem. Other more hearty individuals did what they always do and set out to find a yellow light of death fix.

This search most likely led them to the internet, the holy grail of all things digital. Here in this vast wonderland of knowledge they found the secret elixir they needed to return to the world of gaming, cheaply, easily and with independence. They eventually located the secret guide that Sony never talks about on any of its thousands of web pages. They found the PS3 repair guide that gives them step by step instructions on how to accomplish a yellow light of death fix, without the help of an overpriced Sony technician. What they found was more than a simple solution, they found freedom and independence and new found confidence.

Thousands of customers have happily played away on the PS3s for a year or so, with all seemingly well in the world, until a few days, weeks or months after the 1 year warranty expires, they are suddenly hit with the blinking yellow light that so many PS3 owners have be hit with that its come to be called the PS3 yellow light of death.

You know the old saying that the day after the warranty runs out is the day your car will break down? Well it turns out to be true for the Sony PlayStation 3 also.

Once your console starts flashing that mocking yellow light, it’s game over for you until you get the problem fixed. Sony will be happy to take care of it for you, in exchange of course for a good chunk of cash and possession of your PS3 for up to 6 weeks. They’ll also give you the opportunity to purchase a refurbished unit at a special customer only discount rate. But why should you have to choose one of those options? After all, you paid premium price for your unit and the PS3 yellow light of death was never mentioned in the brochure.

If you’re like me, you’ll kindly thank Sony for their generous offer and then promptly take matters into your own hands. The problem is that you haven’t got a clue where to begin. Fortunately there are guides available online that will walk you through the diagnostic process step by step and then explain how to repair any problem you find along the way. Just because the PS3 stops working doesn’t necessarily mean it’s fried. It’s usually just a minor problem causing a big headache. With the right guide, you can put out the PS3 yellow light of death and get your game back on, no thanks to Sony.

How can you tell if you are having problems with the lens on your Playstation 3? A lens can fail, especially under heavy use over a long period of time. Fortunately, you CAN do something about it without spending a fortune, and without buying a new console.

How can you tell if you are having problems with the lens on your Playstation 3? Typical symptoms include difficulty with reading discs that used to work perfectly well (assuming that the disc has not been damaged), frequent skipping or freezing, discs taking a long time to load, getting disc reading errors. A lens can fail, especially under heavy use over a long period of time. Fortunately, you CAN do something about it without spending a fortune, and without buying a new console.

Check the trouble-shooting section of your manual first for simple solutions. Then use a lens-cleaning disc. The lens can become dirty, particularly during the heating season when there’s more dust flying around or if you view a lot of rented movies without cleaning the discs first. It’s a good idea to clean rented or borrowed discs before using them – if you’ve ever bothered to look at a rented disc you’ll know that greasy fingerprints are normal, but it’s also common to find sticky residues that resemble peanut butter & jelly! It only takes a couple of minutes to clean a disc and it can save a lot of wear & tear on your lens.

If lens-cleaning doesn’t help, then you probably need to replace the lens. It’s not as difficult as you might think, and replacement lenses ARE available. Make sure you get the right lens for your console (some have a single eye, some have two). If you’re lucky you’ll find info on the replacement part in your manual; otherwise, check the Sony website for a part number or description based on the model number and/or serial number of your console. You will probably find different sources for the replacement lens; third-party providers will often be less expensive, but make sure you look for positive reviews by people who have used the particular lens you’re looking to buy.

Once you have your replacement lens, all you need is some time and patience. Follow the directions carefully, and make sure you have a small container handy to put the screws & other parts in as you take the console apart. Make note of how it comes apart; it makes it much easier to put the console together again! Make sure you ground yourself before touching the interior of the console after you get the cover off; static electricity can wreak havoc on electronic equipment. When disconnecting the lens from the console, be careful to ease the connectors off carefully. They can be a tight fit and you don’t want to crack or break the ends.

Once you’ve got your new lens in and put the console together again, all you need to do is enjoy a lot more games & movies. And congratulate yourself on saving the cost of a big repair bill, let alone the price of a new console!

Amazon carries various PS3 replacement lenses.

You are simply the victim of a shoddy manufacturing process that Sony has no need or desire to fix, since it’s not going to stop you from purchasing their consoles. But don’t worry because I’m about to tell you everything you need to know to fix your PS3 yourself.

I understand you have a little problem. Well, perhaps to you it is a big problem. Regardless, we can make this little thing go away. I’m talking about the problem you are having with your Playstation 3 whose 1 year warranty has recently expired. Maybe Sony is a cabal of evil geniuses who can make your PS3 fail at will, but more likely, you are simply the victim of a shoddy manufacturing process that Sony has no need or desire to fix, since it’s not going to stop you from purchasing their consoles. But don’t worry because I’m about to tell you everything you need to know to fix your PS3 yourself.

The truth is that no manufacturing process is perfect and even less so when we are talking about sophisticated electronics. With the price you paid for your PS3, you’d think it would be handed down for generations, from father to son. Actually if you go two complete years with no problems you are lucky. If you never experience the dreaded yellow light of death and never have to fix your PS3 then you are indeed fortunate. Most people will sooner later encounter a problem, one that is more than likely caused by poor soldering. The good news is that there is a fairly simple trick that can fix the problem.

The veins of a PS3 are made of solder and often this solder is less than perfect. Occasionally a connection is broken due to poor soldering and needs to be fixed. This problem would be extremely easy to fix if you knew where the break was, but you usually don’t.

You may be finding the hard-drive on your PS3 too small for your growing collection of games & other media. If you only have a 20 or 60 GB hard-drive you may be wondering when you’ll have to upgrade your console. There is another option that’s less expensive, which can extend the useful life of your console quite a lot.

A hard-drive upgrade kit will allow you to swap out the hard-drive in your console for a larger one, even up to 320GB. The kit comes with video instructions, so you don’t need to be a mechanical wizard or have any special skills. It’s not a long or complicated job. The benefits can be enormous, though, when you find yourself with a whole new expanse of electronic real estate for your favorite games, demos, HD-videos, and other media.

When you look for an upgrade kit, check that it’s covered by it’s own warranty. If your console is still within the warranty period you might want to check that the upgrade kit does not affect your original warranty coverage from Sony. After that, install and enjoy! You can check out Amazon for various PS3 Hard Drive upgrade options. Check the reviews; if you’re comfortable working on your own console, you may not need to pay for a specific PS3 upgrade kit because third party drives will apparently work fine.
